St Therese of Lisieux

This week in R.E we had to pick and research a Saint of our choice. We then had to create a timeline for them. I enjoyed doing this because I got to learn more about a saint. Next time i will add some images to my slideshow and use something to make my timeline more interesting.

I Believe

This week we have read a story about a unicorn. After we read the story we had to create our own and making it rhyme and using more punctuation. I enjoyed doing this because I got to come up with my own idea. Next time I will use more punctuation and make it longer.

There once was a human called Bry. Her biggest dream was to soar through the sky. Though she thought this wasn’t possible. In fact she thought it was impossible. Her best friend was the only one to believe. But when Bry said no, her best friend would leave. Then finally one day “I’m off to search for my dreams” she said. Out the door she then sped.

She searched and she searched with no luck. Then suddenly with a great idea she was struck... She said out loud “I believe”. Then a magic fairy came out her sleeve. The magic fairy said “I’m Mary”. Then Bry said “how did you appear”? All that Mary said was “those who don’t believe in magic won’t find it”. Bry understood this just a little bit. “Follow me if you want to fly”. Bry said “I want to soar through the sky”.

Mary led Bry to a magic faraway land. There Mary put magic dust in Bry’s left hand. She said “sprinkle this on your feet”. Then Bry said “will this help me fly across every street”? “This magic dust will help you fly; but only if you give it a try”. At this moment Bry sprinkled it on her feet. Now she rose up several feet. Mary said “call me if you need some more”! Bry replied “bye” and off she soared.

All the way back to her best friend she flew. Mary gave her some dust and they flew off to Peru. Her best friends said “I told you”! “I told you”! “I told you”! After this they travel all over the planet. Where they kept on eating pomegranates. Because of this they became even closer friends. Everywhere they went they would spend, spend, spend. That is the end of the story of Bry. The girl who just wanted to fly, fly, fly.

Pounamu Stone

This we learnt about taonga in New Zealand and we had to create a DLO about one of the examples. I chose to create a DLO about pounamu stone because I wanted to learn more about it. Something I could work on is being more creative with my DLO

A Rock

This week we read a story about a goldfish recounting some of his life in a bowl. After we read the story we had to create our own story/recount about an object that we chose. I enjoyed doing this because I got to write from the perspective of a different object. Next time I will add more descriptive language.

It was a warm day here outside, I was sitting next to a fence all alone with nobody to talk to. Life as a rock is hard. Like I said, I was sitting there next to a fence; as the rays of the sun shone down on me. As the rays hit me the heat of the sun made me burn. It was so hot in the position that I was in. Sometimes I hope for some legs so that I could move. I also wish that I had friends that I could talk to here next to the fence.

As I had come up with this thought I realized that other rocks were being put with me here in my portion of the fence. I waited until the human had left before I started to talk to my new friends. “Welcome to my place next to the fence” I said. Then hearing a chorus of “hello” to me. Now that there were other rocks here with me, I was crowded and couldn’t see. I had gotten buried under all of these rocks that were surrounding me. I don’t know why but when I have company, I wish I didn’t.

Another wish that I made came true! There was the same human again; he was searching all around us rocks for something. I didn’t know what he was looking for though. Then finally he had found it, he was looking all around for me. He lifted me up, carried me all the way into the house, where there was paint, glitter and more sparkly things everywhere. He had carefully placed me on the table, picked up a paintbrush and started covering me with paint and glitter. When he was done, I was covered and the glitter sparkled in the light.

I stayed inside the house a couple of days and nights with this strange human (I was still drying). I was happy for some of days inside the house, but then I started to get bored. I just couldn’t make my mind up if I wanted to go outside or stay inside; even though it wasn’t my choice. In the end I had to go outside with the other rocks. Once I got to know everyone it was all fine. Another good thing was that I was the most sparkly out of all of the rocks next to the fence.

Gymnastics Dance

This term we have been looking at gymnastics for our PE. With a buddy or group we created a gymnastics dance. One thing that I thing my group did well was preforming the dance. Next time I think we could use something on the ground so we don't have to cut our feet and the ground out.

Pathways

Children in the Philippines

This term we have been looking at Social Justice and we had to create our own inquiry about children in other countries who are less fortunate than others. I think that the best thing about doing my inquiry was that I got to learn more about my country and that I got to research my own topic. One thing that I didn’t do as well as I could have was using and putting more information into my presentation of my work.

Mihi Game

This week we created a Mihi on a website on the computer called gamefroot. On this app you use coding to create a game, for example this Mihi. I enjoyed doing this because we got to use a different app to create a Mihi. Next time I will make some of the things in the gamefroot more original and and my own.

The Church is One, but not perfectly one

Is Graffiti Art or Just Messy?

Plan

Have you ever thought, what is graffiti? Is it a piece of art or is it just messy? There are lots of reasons why people think that graffiti is art but there are also many reasons why people think it is messy and ruins towns. What is your opinion? In my opinion I think that graffiti is messy.

Graffiti is messy; it ruins structures and buildings it has been put on. Who do you think takes all of the graffiti that has been put on walls and buildings? Well whoever they are it costs them lots of money. Also to other people they might find it disrespectful to their culture.

The graffiti is hard to get off walls and the council has to use more money. What does the council use the money for? They have to buy graffiti resistant paint so that when they take the graffiti off it will be easier. In addition to that the council has to buy supplies to even just take off the graffiti. In Australia it takes about $30 Million to remove graffiti in one year but here is New Zealand from 2006 to 2011 it had cost the Auckland council $20 million to remove and cover up graffiti.

What would happen to you if you vandalized something? There is a chance that you would be fined or be imprisoned. Graffiti Vandalism Act 2016: If you are caught destroying or damaging someone's property; you could be charged with $24,000 and 2 years of imprisonment. If you are caught with something and the intention of using it to damage something or caught selling something to use for damage to a child you can be charged with a $6,000 fine.

Have you ever thought to yourself what if someone vandalised your property? When others put up graffiti, not all people will find that it looks nice. To them it might look like a mess. People from other cultures or different backgrounds might see something in the graffiti that they might find offensive. Like if there is something important from their culture used in the graffiti, they might look at it and see this as a bad thing. Also when graffiti is already messy and then someone else does more graffiti on top of ones that are already there it becomes even messier.

These are three reasons why I think that graffiti is just messy. It takes councils lots of money to clean, remove and cover up. What do you think? Do you think that graffiti ruins towns and cities? Or do you think that it another type art that shows your feelings?

Trapped and Alone

The past two weeks we have been writing two descriptive paragraphs about what we see in the photo below. We had to use descriptive words to show not tell. I enjoyed doing this because we had to make it descriptive so the reader can make a picture in their mind. Next time I will add use more descriptive words 

In a dusty basement it is frosty, the man can see his breath and there is a gust of wind outside. He jumps as branches start crashing. Footsteps outside begin to get louder and louder, the man starts breathing heavily. Light seeps into the basement and the floorboards are creaking. The footsteps are approaching but the darkness is hiding him. As the footsteps leave, his heart beat slows down.

Trapped  the darkness of a corner, the man wonders if he will ever get out. He wonders what will happen to him if he stays there forever. As he imagines his family and friends, the door creaks and he is blinded by a light. He takes a deep breath as it as it comes closer. Unexpectedly he is no longer being blinded, he lets go of the breath and his family is there. He is being rescued and taken home.

How Does Mould Grow?

This term we have been learning about how mould grows. When we finished learning how they grew we created an explanation on how they grow. What I found easy was getting the information down. What I found hard was expanding on those ideas. Next time I will be more descriptive.

Planning

Have you ever wondered what mould is and how it grows? Well mould is not an animal or plant. It is a type of Fungi. Any type of fungi starts off as a spore which is a tiny reproductive cell. They then grow into mould or fungi but there is more to the process.

Mould starts off as a spore. Where do these spores come from and what are they? Spores can come from any type of fungi such as mould. A spore is a cell which can keep on producing more and more fungi and mould. To the eye spores are invisible because they are very small. When spores come off the fungi they become airborne. They float in the air and onto other surfaces or food.

What happens when the spore lands on another surface or food? When they land on another surface they start to grow into something called hypha or hyphae. Hyphae is a branch filament that makes up the mycelium of fungus. These hyphae produce enzymes which causes the food source to break down.

As the hyphae becomes bigger and grows more and more they grow into something which appears to look like a cobweb. What appears to be a cobweb is actually called mycelium. Mycelium is the vegetative part of fungus which is made up of hyphae. This mycelium is what then turns into the fungus or mould.

This is how fungus and mould grow. From a small tiny spore into a fungus.

Mould Life Cycle

This term we have been learning about mould and how it grows. I enjoyed doing this because I got to make an animation. What I found hard was trying to make the animation look like how we wanted and next time we will add information and text.

Mould

WALT... Differentiate between plant-like and animal-like characteristics of mould. I enjoyed doing this because I got to learn about moulds. 

Under The Rug

This week we got a photo with the first sentence of the story. We then had to be creative and write a story with the first sentence. I enjoyed doing this because I got to come up with my own story following a sentence. Next time I will be more descriptive and have paragraphs.

Two weeks past and it happened again. Ben was sitting calmly in his chair when he had heard a noise and felt a breeze. He looked from corner to corner looking for what it was but there was nothing there. Again he heard the noise, he got up grabbed his chair and smashed it where he heard a noise but nothing happened. Then he saw something, it was under the rug so he got his chair again and smashed it but it had left. He searched around the room but he still saw nothing. It appeared again under the rug and it was moving around. His chair was already smashed and broken so he went to grab another one. He kept hitting the ground and not able to get whatever was under the rug. It moved again, he smashed it as hard as he could but all that happened was, it rattled the whole house. It stayed under the rug while Ben kept on smashing it for about an hour. He kept one chasing it as it moved around under the rug. Then it came out from under the rug and moved around the whole room. But Ben couldn’t see it, he just kept feeling a breeze around him. Feeling a bit chilly he turned on the fire in attempt to get rid of whatever was in his house. This worked he saw whatever it was or figure of what it was. It was melting and begging for help so Ben helped him he turned off the fire and he stopped melting. Ben and the ‘ghost’ became friends and whenever it got cold the fire didn’t affect him because he was friends with the owner of the house and the only way he wouldn’t melt was to have friends.

BEDMAS

WALT... Understand and explain the rules for order of operations including explaining the acronym. I enjoyed doing this because I learnt about BEDMAS. Next time we will make the DLO more interesting

Easter Celebration

WALT... Use the correct structure for a recount. This week for writing we have been writing recounts. I enjoyed doing this becuase I got to write about the holidays. Next time I will add more descriptive words.

One the first week of the holidays my family invited over some friends for Easter, at our house.

First one family of friends arrived. They had children so we went to a park. The park was close so we just walked there. When we reached the park we went one the slide and swings. We continued to play on the playground until we decided that we would go back to the house.

A couple of minutes after we got to the house, one of my dad’s friends and his son came. So we decided to eat the pizza and some chocolate eggs. Once we were finished eating the adults talked at the table while we played naughts and crosses in the living room.

Then about an hour later another two people arrived, while the other two families left because they were tired and wanted to leave. After they left I went to go and watch Netflix because there was nothing else to do.

I enjoyed having people over at our house because we usually don’t have many guests. Though when the people it got a bit boring

Order of Operations In Life

Freda the Dog

I enjoyed writing this because we got to imagine what it was like at war and writ about it. Next time I will add more descriptive words

At war it was misty and you could see my breath in the air. Every few seconds you could hear and feel crashes and bangs of the explosions. Every time they were set off it would leave a ringing noise in my ear. I would jump every time I heard one. I felt home sick and no matter how long you were there you would never get used to it.

Down in the trenches I was with one of the few people who would keep me company, my dog Freda. Though the ground was muddy and wet we were both one our knees. We were slowly sneaking around looking out for bombs and bullets. This was one of the many things I hated about war. No matter what happened though I just had to get Freda back home safely.

Leadership Creature

This term we have been learning about leadership. After learning about leadership we had to create a creature with 8 characteristics of a leader and a DLO for it. I enjoyed doing this because we got to use clay. Next time I will make some of the features more visible.

This week my group worked on exponents with the number 10. I enjoyed doing this because I created a quiz. Next time I will add more questions to the quiz

Goldilocks And The Three Bears

Hi, my name is Goldilocks and I am here sitting in jail for breaking into someone's house but really I was only in there because I was lost and starving.

It all started when I decided to go for a walk. At first I knew where I was going but then I was lost in the woods. I had spent days wandering around trying to get out and finding out where I was. It was no use thought I was still lost,tired and hungry.

Even though I had no idea where I was I just kept walking with hope that I would find something or someone. “It worked” I thought. I had found a house in the middle of the woods. I ran up to it as fast as I could.

While I was running I was hoping there was someone inside with some food and somewhere for me to rest. Also if they could help me find my way out. When I reached the door, I knocked but no one answered so I turned the door handle and it was opened.

I cautiously stepped inside and looked around for someone. But no one was home. I thought to myself “who leaves their house and doesn’t lock it. I then briefly thought about getting out but I was starving and extremely tired, so I stayed.

Inside I looked around for some food and lucky for me there were already three bowls of porridge on the table. I walked up to them and tried the first bowl but it was steaming hot. I tried the second one but it was already freezing cold. Luckily though the third one was just right. “Yum” I said.

When I was done eating I looked for somewhere to rest. In front of me there were three chairs and I tried them all. The first one was too hard. The second one was too soft but the third one was perfect. “Very comfy” I said.

Then I thought maybe there is somewhere even more comfy to rest so I went off in search of the house. Luckily I found three beds, seeing the pattern I tried the third one first. I was right the third one was perfect. I didn’t mean to but I fell asleep. The next thing I knew a bear was raging with anger and he was calling someone one the phone. A few minutes later the cops were there walking me to their car. “Oh no” I said worriedly.

I was in jail. The good thing is that I am not lost in the woods anymore, and I get fed. Not good food but at least I get fed. I am also not extremely tired anymore. Like the food I don’t get that good of a rest but at least I get some.

Inferencing Riddles
